Why free movies and music are illegal?

How can you differentiate free and legal music downloads? This means differentiating an illegal act to a legal one since downloading free music online is considered piracy according to the law passed by the US congress, the SOPA or Stop Online Piracy Act. This bill passed and approved in the US congress became controversial most especially when one of the biggest file sharing network in the world, Megaupload, was shut downed by the FBI. But due to the fact that downloading music and movies from file sharing network like Megaupload, this is really an entire illegal activity and no one can oppose the decision of the US government to shutdown any. Movies and music are copyrighted works and according to the agreement, you cannot download a movie or a music unless you pay for it.

Moreover, at some point, downloading music and movies for free should still be called legal since the main source of it obviously purchased the file and did not steal it to any recording company or whatever it is. It should only be illegal if the person who downloads it will take advantage for its own sake like selling the downloaded movie or music. This case applies to the vendors of piracy movies. Aside from recording the movies from theatres, perhaps, at some point, the movies that they burned into DVD’s came from downloaded movies. Although, there was no clear indication of that as their procedure but because the fact that we are now living in a high tech world, there is a great chance that is possible. In addition, to think wisely, it is more less time consuming to download movies than going to theatres and record the whole movie and get themselves into sweat. Therefore, this should be their main priority first, to eliminate vendors selling crap copy of DVD movies.
